Uninstalling Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2

When you uninstall Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2, depending on the features you are uninstalling, certain files may not be removed from the system. This section describes the files that are left behind once the uninstallation has been completed. This section is comprised of the following:

  • Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Service and Portal Uninstalled Files

  • Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Synchronization Service Uninstalled Files

  • Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Certificate Management Uninstalled Files

Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Service and Portal Uninstalled Files

The following is a list of items that are not uninstalled when you uninstall the FIM 2010 R2 Service and Portal.

  • Web.bak – When you install the FIM 2010 R2 Service and Portal a backup of IIS’s web.config is created called Web.bak. This file is not deleted when you uninstall the FIM 2010 R2 Service and Portal. This file is located in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\

  • SPTHEMES.XML – This is a SharePoint theme file that is modified during installation to include a custom UI for FIM 2010 R2. This custom content does not get removed on uninstall. This file is located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033\

Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Synchronization Service Uninstalled Files

The following is a list of items that are not uninstalled when you uninstall the FIM 2010 R2 Synchronization Service.

  • MaData Folder Connectors that are installed on top of the FIM 2010 R2 Synchronization Service will not be removed during uninstall. These will be located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager\2010\Synchronization Service\MaData.

  • Extensions Folder Rules Extensions that are created after FIM 2010 R2 Synchronization Service is installed, will not be removed during uninstall. These will be located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager\2010\Synchronization Service\Extensions.

Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 Certificate Management Uninstalled Files

The following is a list of items that are not uninstalled when you uninstall the FIM 2010 R2 Certificate Management.

  • Application Log The application log found at C:\temp\bulk.txt will not be automatically removed when FIM CM is uninstalled.

  • User Data and User Test Data When users execute certain operations or are testing certain operations, various files are created. These files are not removed when FIM CM is uninstalled. The following is a list of various files that may or may not be present.
