Administrator Guide for Windows Embedded 8.1 Handheld

August 13, 2015

Welcome to Windows Embedded 8.1 Handheld, an extension of Windows Phone 8.1 that enables you to tailor devices to specific business uses. This guide is intended for Information Technology (IT) professionals in an enterprise who need to configure and manage Handheld 8.1 devices. The information in this guide can also help you identify the device features that best serve your business needs.

Handheld 8.1 includes built-in apps and services, a library of configuration service providers (CSPs) that execute configuration requests by changing or querying the values of settings, and an application programming interface (API) for application development. To illustrate the capabilities of a Handheld 8.1-powered device, this guide discusses some features that require applications that are not built in to Handheld 8.1. You can work with a developer or the device provider to get or create applications for your devices.

For a list of Handheld 8.1 features, see Features in Windows Embedded 8.1 Handheld.
