Store areas (form)

This topic applies to features in the Inventory management module. It does not apply to features in the Warehouse management module.

Click Inventory management > Setup > Inventory breakdown > Store areas.

Use this form to designate store areas, which are sections of the warehouse that can be used for inventory that has similar characteristics.

Tip

You can click Functions > Location Wizard in the Warehouses form to attach locations to a warehouse.

Description

Store area

The unique identifier of the store area.

Name

The description of the store area.

Area type

The type of store area that is involved. Every location must have one of these types:

  • Input area – Refers to the storage location of items when they are received in inventory. Store areas are grouped into store zones. An example of an input area system is ABC classification.

  • Picking area – Determines picking routes. The picking lines that make up a picking route are composed of items that are stored in locations in the same picking area.

Automatic activation

Select this check box to automatically start a refill pallet transport from the bulk location to the picking location, if items are missing on the picking location, and if any of the following conditions is true:

  • A picking route is started.

  • A refill pallet transport is completed.

  • The quantity at the picking location is less than the quantity that is specified in the Required minimum field on the Locations tab in the Warehouse items form.

Mode of handling

The mode of handling, which refers to the two ways of picking. You can use a handheld device and register picked items continuously, or print the picking list on paper and update Microsoft Dynamics AX after picking is completed.

This setting is used as the default value in the Picking list registration form.

This option is available only if the store area has an area type of Picking area.
