Click Organization administration > Common > Resources > Resources.

Use this form to create and update operations resources. Operations resources are the resources that are used to complete the production processes. They can be machines, tools, locations, people, or vendors that contribute to the production of an item or to completing a project.

About resources and operations

An operations resource consists of one or more people or machines with identical capabilities that are considered as one unit for managing the planning of capacity requirements and detailed scheduling. After an operations resource is created, assign it to a resource group and specific productions.

When you reassign resources to different resource groups, use the Expiration: field on the Resource groups tab to specify when the resource can be scheduled in production. This enables you to share a resource across more than one site.

You can create resources without assigning them to a resource group. However, a resource must be assigned to a resource group before it can be scheduled to perform work. A resource can only be assigned to one resource group at a time.

Resources are assigned jobs during the job scheduling process. Job scheduling is the detailed planning of capacity, and separates each operation into its individual tasks or jobs. For more information, see About job scheduling.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Tabs

Tab	Description
General tab	Enter general information for the selected operations resource, such as the type of resource. Settings that affect the use of the resource include the percent of the capacity of the resource group that is used to conduct operations scheduling and job scheduling for this resource, whether the resource group has limited or finite capacity, and the method for measuring capacity.
Operation	Define a default route group, scrap percentage and cost categories. Cost categories are used to calculate the cost of setup time, run time, and quantity for the selected work center. Cost categories are attached to cost groups. You can also define the queue times for before and after the processes are conducted in the resource, the setup time and run time, the process quantity that can be produced in the time listed, and the quantity that must be produced before the next operation in the production route can start.
Ledger	Select the issue or receipt accounts and the debit or credit accounts in which the work in process (WIP) for the selected operations resource will be recorded.
Financial dimensions	View information about financial dimensions, such as the default dimensions and where the dimensions are used in account structures and advanced rule structures.
Capabilities	Define the capabilities of the resource. Capabilities are used to define which resources to schedule.
Resource groups	Assign the selected resource to a resource group. Define the dates which the resource is available for scheduling in the resource group, set resource-specific working calendars, and input location relative to the input warehouse of the resource group.

Buttons

Button	Description
Copy resource	Create a new resource as a complete copy of the original resource. You must define a resource type and a new unique resource ID.
Bulk edit	Edit one or more selected resources. You can only change the value of one field at a time for multiple resources.
Add capability	Assign a capability to the selected resources.
Add to resource group	Assign the selected resources to a resource group.
Calendar deviations	Create or update calendar deviations that occur on one or more specific dates for a selected resource. Calendar deviations represent variations to the regular working times.
Delete	Delete the selected resource.
Dispatching	View the jobs that are allocated to the selected operations resource. You can make adjustments to daily operations for each resource and adjust the sequential order of the jobs.
Gantt chart	View or update a Gantt chart that includes route jobs grouped by the resources that are used in the current production.
Route transactions	View information about posted route transactions that are related to the selected resource. This includes transaction dates, vouchers, costs, and job information.
Capacity load	Display a capacity list, totaled by day.
Capacity load, graphically	Display a graphical view of the capacity load.
Capacity reservations	Display the capacity reservations for the selected resource.
Operations	Show all route operations that this resource can be scheduled for.
Routes	Show all routes that this resource can be scheduled for.
Jobs	Show all jobs that this resource can be reserved for.
Planned jobs	Show all planned jobs that this resource can be planned for.

Fields

Field	Description
Resource	Unique identification of the resource.
Description	Enter a description of the resource.
Type	Select one of the following values: Vendor – Select when the resource is an external operations resource, for example, a subcontractor. This lets you generate purchases for subcontractors based on the bill of material (BOM) lines or production lines. Human resources – Select when the resource is one or more workers, and only when you want to schedule individual workers or groups of workers. For both the operation and the resource, you can specify several operators as standard. You can also follow the resource consumption for the operator time in the operator profile. Typically, you schedule for the Human resources resource type when worker capacity is limited. Machine – Select this type if the resource is a production machine. Tool – Select this type if the resource is an instrument or device that can be considered a tool. Note To schedule for tools, machines, or personnel at the same time, you must specify a primary resource to determine available capacity. Location – Select this type if the resource is a physical location, such as an assembly area, of a certain size.
Vendor	Select a vendor for the resource. This field is enabled only when Vendor is selected in the Resource field. When production is scheduled, capacity is not calculated for resources that are assigned this type.
Worker	Enter the worker personnel number. This is necessary only when Human resources is selected as the resource type in the Resource field.
Efficiency percentage	The percentage of the calendar opening time that the system schedules on a specific resource per day. You can reduce or increase the processing time of individual jobs per day by using the efficiency percentage. Example If a job setup requires six hours, and the efficiency percentage for the resource is 50 percent, the job will then reserve the capacity for three hours on the first day and three hours on the second day.
Operations scheduling percentage	Specify the maximum percentage of daily capacity for the resource that can be scheduled for the operation per production.
Finite capacity	Select this check box to indicate that the capacity is limited. If the check box is cleared, the capacity is unlimited. By using finite capacity, the scheduling of operations or jobs is based on the actual available capacity in the resource group or resource. The amount of capacity that is already reserved on the resource is not considered.
Finite property	Select the check box to define the property of the resource as limited. When a resource operates with limited properties, certain operations are scheduled at particular periods to minimize setup times. For more information, see Properties (form).
Exclusive	When you use primary and secondary operations, select this check box to reserve the resource exclusively for a job. Ongoing jobs for the resource will not be interrupted by other jobs. Examples A primary resource is exclusive. When there is a break in the scheduling of the secondary resource, the primary resource cannot be reserved for other jobs. A secondary resource is exclusive. Performing an operation requires a 50-percent load on the secondary resource. The secondary resource is reserved at 100-percent load, even though it is operating at 50 percent, and no other jobs can be scheduled on that resource until the job is completed. If this check box is cleared, when there is a gap between reservations or a resource is not being used at 100-percent capacity, it can be reserved for other jobs.
Bottleneck resource	Select the check box to define the current resource as a bottleneck resource. A bottleneck resource is scheduled by using finite capacity when the Finite capacity field and the Bottleneck scheduling field on the Master plans form are selected.
Capacity unit	Specify the unit for expressing the capacity. The options are as follows: None Strokes/Hour Meters/Hour Kg/Hour Cards/Hour
Capacity	The resource's capacity per hour. Specify the units for capacity in the Capacity unit field.
Batch capacity	Specify the maximum number of pieces that the resource can process per run, when calculated using the factor 1.
WIP issue	View the issue account for work in process. For more information, see the Ledger field in Production orders (form).
WIP account	The receipt account for work in process. For more information, see the Ledger field in Production orders (form).
Issue	The account that is used to credit work in process for costing. For more information, see the Ledger field in Production orders (form).
Offset account	The account that is used to debit work in process in for costing. For more information, see the Ledger field in Production orders (form).
Route group	Specify a default route group to use when you select a resource when you are creating a relation.
Scrap percentage	View the expected extra consumption for the operation. The extra consumption is included in the calculation of both material and operations resource consumption for the current operation. The value must be positive. The error percentage is summarized in the Accumulated field for the current route. Accumulated error is used in the calculation of extra consumption of materials and resource time for the individual operations in the route. The formula for the calculation is as follows: Accumulated for the next operation number * 100 / (100 - Scrap percentage). The field value is transferred to the route operation when you select the resource. Example In the production of 100 pieces, for all three operations 10, 20, and 30, 10 percent is scrapped. To finish 100 pieces, 111 pieces must go to operation 30 from operation 20. 100 pieces * 100 / (100 – 10). To finish 111 pieces in operation 20, 123 pieces must come from operation 10. (111 pieces * 100 / (100 - 10)). Similarly, operation 10 must be started with 137 pieces in order to reach the ultimate production quantity of 100 pieces.
Setup category	The cost category proposal for setup time.
Run time category	The cost category for process time. The value of this field is transferred to the Run time category field on the route when you select the resource as a costing resource.
Quantity category	The cost category for quantity. The value of this field is transferred to the Quantity category field on the route operation when you select the resource as a costing resource.
Queue time before	View the time to wait before the operation can be started. The value in the field must be positive. Set up this value in the route group where you can determine whether queue time should be scheduled and which calendar to use. Queue time can be used for sub-supplier work, for example. The value of this field is transferred to the Queue time before field on the route operation when you select the resource as a costing resource.
Setup time	The setup time, which must be positive, is the fixed time that will be used to prepare a resource. Whether capacity should be reserved or the time should respect the working-time calendar depends on the route group. The value of this field is transferred to the Setup time field on the route operation when you select the resource as a costing resource.
Run time	The time that is required to produce the process quantity. If a conversion factor is not specified in the Hours/time field for the route operation or for the resource, then run time is field is filled in automatically with hours to two decimal places. If you specify a conversion factor in the Hours/time field for the route operation, the value for the Hours/time field for the resource will be overridden. The process per quantity must be positive. Run time is scheduled relative to the operation's routing group. The value of this field is transferred to the Run time field on the route operation when you select the resource as a costing resource.
Process qty.	The number of items that can be produced in a specific process time. The value in this field must be greater than 0 (zero). The field value is transferred to the route operation when you select the resource as a costing resource. See the Process qty. field.
Transit time	Shows transit time, which is the time that is required to move items between two resources or from the last operation to inventory. How the transit time is used depends on the setup for the operation's route group. The transit time must be positive. The field value is transferred to the route operation when you select the resource.
Queue time after	The time that the items wait after the operation is finished before the next operation can start. The value must be positive, and depends on the working time that is specified for the route group in the Working time field. Queue time can follow the Gregorian calendar or the current working-time calendar. When you select the resource as a costing resource, the value is transferred to the route operation. Example Specify the time that is required to dry items before the start of the next operation.
Hours/time	This field shows a conversion factor for the times specified for the operation for conversion to hours with two decimals. The following formula is used: Hours = operating time * Hours/time. Example If the operation time is in hours: Hours/time is 1.0000. For an operation time of 0.50 - a half hour - the time is calculated as follows: 0.50 * 1.0000 = 0.50 hours. If the operation time is in minutes: Hours/time is set to 0.0167. For an operation time of 30 minutes, the time is calculated as follows: 30.00 * 0.0167 = 0.50 hours. The field value is transferred to the route operation when you select the resource.
Transfer batch	The quantity that can be moved between sequential resources.
Capability	The identification of the capability assigned to the selected resource.
Description	The description of the capability.
Effective	The earliest date the selected resource has the capability.
Expiration:	The date the selected resource loses the assigned capability.
Level	The level of the assigned capability.
Priority	The priority of the capability. A value of 1 is the highest priority, and then 2, 3, and so on. If multiple resources have the same capability and can fulfill the level criteria, the resource with the lowest value in the Priority field is selected first when production is scheduled.
Resource group	The identification of the resource group that the selected resource is member of.
Effective	The start date when the resource assigned to the resource group can be scheduled for production. You cannot schedule a resource for production before this date. Note The start date specified for a resource overrides the start date specified for the resource group.
Expiration:	The expiration date for the selected resource in the resource group. You cannot schedule a resource for production if the expiration date has been exceeded. Note An expiration date specified for a resource will override an expiration date specified for the resource group.
Calendar	The calendar that will be used by the resource assigned to the resource group. Note A calendar specified for a resource will override a calendar specified for the resource group.
Input warehouse	The warehouse to use for production input materials for the assigned resource. Note The warehouse is defined on the resource group, and cannot be changed or overridden.
Input location	The location in the input warehouse that will be used for the assigned resource. Note The warehouse and location settings defined on the resource will override the warehouse and location settings defined for the resource group.
