Category groups (form) [AX 2012]

Click Project management and accounting > Setup > Categories > Category groups.

Use this form to set up category groups for projects.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

If an account applies for a specific posting type for all projects, you can select the account in one of the account type fields on the Cost accounts tab or Revenue accounts tab.

Description

Cost accounts

The accounts that are listed on the Cost accounts tab correspond to the accounts that are listed on the Cost accounts tab in the Ledger posting setup form. Select the ledger account that applies to the selected category group for each cost account.

Revenue accounts

The accounts that are listed on the Revenue accounts tab correspond to the accounts that are listed on the Revenue accounts tab in the Ledger posting setup form. Select the ledger account that applies to the selected category group for each revenue account.

Description

Setup

Open a menu that contains the following items:

  • Ledger posting setup – Open the Ledger posting setup form, where you can set up an account for individual projects or project groups.

  • Project/group line properties – Open the Line property setup form, where you can set up line properties for the active category group. You can also view the posting account setup for the category group.

Project categories

Open the Project categories form, which is filtered to display only the categories that are attached to the active category group.

Project control

Open a menu that contains the following items:

  • Project statements – Open the Project statements form, where you can view statements for a defined combination of project types and transaction types.

  • Cost control – Open the Cost control form, where you can calculate and analyze the costs of a project or a set of projects.

  • Invoice control – Open the Invoice control form, where you can calculate and view posted transactions.

  • Hour utilization – Open the Utilization hours form, where you can calculate the hour utilization rate within your organization.

  • Cash flow – Open the Cash flow form, where you can calculate forecasted cash flow and actual cash flow.

Field

Description

Category group

Enter an alpha-numeric identifier for the category group, no longer than 10 characters. This identifier appears when you select the category group from a drop-down list in project forms.

Transaction type

Select one of the four predefined transaction types, depending on what transactions are going to be posted on the category group.

NoteNote

Fee subscriptions are included in the category Fee. On-account transactions cannot be added to category groups.

Category group name

Enter a descriptive name for the category group.

Line property

Select a default line property for the category group.
