Click Production control > Common > Production orders > All production orders. Select the production order, and on the Action Pane, click Production details, and then select Route.

Use this form to create or update production routes associated with the selected production order. When you create a production order, you select a route number. The system copies information from the selected route to the production route that is shown in this form. You can change, insert, or delete lines without affecting the route information in the base data.

Example: Specifying the sequence of operations

Use the Next field to specify the next operation. The following example lists the first operation as operation number 10 (weld), the next as operation number 20 (assemble), and the last as operation number 30 (pack). Each operation in the production route has an identifying number that identifies the tasks involved in manufacturing the item. The first operation is always represented by the lowest number in the sequence. The last operation is always represented by the value 0 in the Next field.

If an item does not have a route in the base data, the production route is blank.

Note

You can make changes to production routes only on productions orders that have the status Started or earlier. If your changes affect cost estimates or job scheduling, run the estimation, operations, or job scheduling procedures again.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Tabs

Tab	Description
Overview tab	Create or update operations in the production route for the selected production order. You can enter or change settings such as the priority that is used to control simultaneous operations and the time that is required to produce the specified quantity.
General tab	Enter or verify information about the selected operation. This includes additional details about the operation, route, and hourly rate or piecework rate.
Setup	Define the criteria for processing the selected operation. The criteria include the formula that is used to calculate consumption, and cost categories for setup time, run time, and quantity.
Update	View the latest updates to the current operation.
Times	View the times associated with the operation, such as the queue time before and after the operation, the setup time, and the run time. You can also view the overlap quantity that is used to calculate the overlap time.
Resource requirements	Enter or view the resource requirements for the operation. You can define requirements based on the resource type, the resource group, or the individual resource itself. You can also define requirements based on resource capabilities. Additionally, you can specify whether a requirement is available for operations scheduling and job scheduling.
Scheduling	View or reschedule operations if you want to. You can view the remaining status, and the start and end dates that are scheduled for the operation.
Feedback	View production feedback for the selected operation. For example, you can compare the quantity of good items to the error quantity.
Financial dimensions	Define the dimensions for posting to the General ledger module.
Description	Enter a detailed description of the operation.

Buttons

Button	Description
Inquiries	Run inquiries related to the operation.
Functions	Update or copy the route, or calculate overlap.
Applicable resources	View a list of resources that can fulfill the resource requirements for the selected operation on a given date.
Materials	Check the materials consumed by the operations. You can also check which materials are finished.

Fields

Field	Description
Production	The unique identifier for the production order.
Oper. No.	Define the operation number. This can be an alphanumeric string of up to ten characters. The operation number defines where the operation occurs in the sequence of operations for the production. When you create a production route, the system suggests the number 10 for the first operation. The system suggests numbers for subsequent operations in increments of 10. You can change operation numbers manually. If you want to create operations that occur at the same time, you must give the operations the same operation number. When two operations require the same resource, the resource is allocated according to the value in the Priority field. You can specify the next operation to perform in the Next field. To specify the last operation in the sequence, enter 0 in the Next field.
Priority	The priority that is used to control operations that occur at the same time, and that appropriate one or more operations resources at the same time. The priority determines which operation is the primary one. The primary operation should be the operation loading the operations resource that is regarded as the bottleneck for simultaneous operations. A bottleneck operations resource is not defined in any special way in the system, because individual routes and productions determine which operations resources form the bottleneck. An operations resource that is a bottleneck on one route, and therefore defined as primary for simultaneous operations on that route, can be secondary on another route. If the operation is not primary, the times from the primary operation are used to schedule the secondary operation. This means that the times do not have to be specified for secondary operations. If there are no parallel operations for an operation number, the operation should be created as a primary operation.
Operation	Select the operation that uses the resource group or resource in the production route. This field displays a list of all created operations.
Run time	The time that is required to produce the quantity defined in the Process qty. field. If you enter a value, the process time for performing the operation is included in the estimate. The time is scheduled based on the availability of the resource. The time is also included in the capacity loading of the resource when the production order is scheduled. Note The value in the Run time field must be larger than 0. If you have not entered a recalculation factor in the Hours/time field on the Times tab, the system calculates the run time in hundredths of an hour. The system also calculates the run time in hundredths of an hour if a conversion factor has been specified in the Hours/time field in any of the following forms: Relations Resources The value in the Hours/time field in the Relations form overrules the value in the Resources form. The time is scheduled according to the routing group for the operation. The time is calculated as follows: Run time * (Load / 100) * (1 + Accumulated) * Quantity / Process qty. If you select Capacity in the Formula field, the system does the following: Enters the value 1 in the Run time field. Calculates the process quantity by using the value in the Factor field and the number of capacity units specified for the current operations resource in the Capacity field.
Costing resource	Select the costing resource. When you select a resource, you can either insert the default time and cost values from the selected resource, or enter the values individually.
Process qty.	The quantity of items that can be produced during the run time specified in the Run time field. The process quantity is always larger than 0. If you select Capacity in the Formula field, the system does the following: Enters the value 1 in the Run time field Calculates the process quantity by using the value in the Factor field and the number of capacity units specified for the current operations resource in the Capacity field
Next	The number of the next operation in the route. To specify that an operation is the last operation in the sequence of operations, enter 0 in this field.
Quality order status	The status of the quality orders that are related to the production route.
Process job ID	The ID of the process job that is attached to this registration.
Set up job ID	The ID of the setup job that is attached to this registration.
Link type	Specify whether the link to the next job is hard or soft.
Property	Specify the property required for the operation. By default, the field contains the property that is specified for the operation. You can change the value. For more information, see Operations (form).
Route group	Specify the route group that controls how calculation, scheduling, job management, and reporting are performed for the operation. For more information, see Route groups (form). By default, the field contains the route group that is specified for the operation. You can change the value. For more information, see Operations (form).
Route type	Select whether the operation is performed by an external vendor or a standard internal operations resource. By default, the field contains the route type that is specified for the operation. You can change the value. For more information, see Operations (form).
Hourly rate / piecework rate	Specify whether the pay rate is based on an hourly rate or a piecework rate.
Formula	Select the method that is used to calculate consumption.
Scrap percentage	Specify the percentage of scrap materials for the operation. This value must be a positive number. Scrap is included both in the estimate of material consumption and in the operations resource consumption for the current operation.
Factor	Enter the conversion factor that you want to use in the formula that calculates material consumption. The formula is selected in the Formula field.
Setup category	Select a setup category for the operation. The system calculates the cost as follows: Operation * the rate for setup time retrieved from the setup type
Run time category	Select a run-time category for the operation. The system calculates the cost amount as follows: Process time set for the route * Scrap percentage for the route * Rate for operator time
Quantity category	Specify the cost category for the quantity. Use the cost category to specify a quantity-dependent cost for the operation. For more information, see Create cost categories. By default, the field contains the quantity category from the operation. You can change the value. For more information, see Operations (form).
Setup	The estimated number of hours consumed by setup activities.
Process	The estimated process time, in hours, for the operation. The process time is calculated for cost estimation.
Started	A selected check box indicates that the operation has been started. If you start the operations one after the other, you can see which ones have already been started.
Reported as finished	A selected check box indicates that the operation has been reported as finished.
Processing percentage - setup	The current total processing percentage for setup.
Processing percentage - process	The current total processing percentage for the process.
Route level	The level where the operation currently is. When you are maintaining information in a production route, the system calculates the route level where the operation is. Route level number 1 is the last operation on the route. Route level 2 is the operation before number 1, and so on. If you work with route networks, there can be several operations with the same route level. This also applies to simultaneous operations. For more information, see Operations (form).
Accumulated	The accumulated scrap percentage for the operation.
Constant released	A selected check box indicates that the constant consumption has been released.
Queue time before	The time that an operation waits before it can begin. This time is scheduled according to the Gregorian calendar and can be used with subcontractor work.
Setup time	Specify the fixed setup time for clearing the operations resource. The setup time is included in the estimate. The time is scheduled based on the availability of the defined operations resource and is not dependent on the production quantity. Capacity loading of the operations resource time occurs during scheduling.
Transit time	Specify the time that is required to transfer the items to the next location. Transit time is scheduled based on the availability of the operations resource. Capacity loading is not performed for the operations resource with scheduling.
Queue time after	Specify the waiting time after the operation is completed. This time is scheduled according to the Gregorian calendar and can be used with subcontractor work.
Hours/time	Specify a conversion factor for the times that are defined in the route. The conversion converts hours to hundredths of an hour.
Transfer batch	Specify the quantity that can be moved between sequential operations resources.
Overlap quantity	The minimum time that must be used for production before overlap is allowed.
Quantity	The number of operations resources to be drawn on if an operations resource group is specified in the Resource requirements field group. The field must contain the value 1 when an operations resource is specified. If an operations resource is assigned to the operation, the system enters the number in this field. You can change the number. For more information, see Operations (form). Example An operation is attached to a resource group that consists of 5 operations resources. The process time for the operation is 3 hours, and 2 is specified in the Quantity field. When you run operations scheduling, 6 hours are reserved for the resource group. When you run job scheduling, 3 hours are reserved for 2 different operations resources.
Load	The maximum capacity, as a percentage, that the operations resource can be loaded with.
Requirement type	Select the requirement type. The following options are available: Resource type Resource Resource group Capability If you are using the Human resources module, the following additional options are available: Skill Courses Certificate Title
Requirement	Select the requirement. The items that appear in the list depend on the requirement type that you selected in the Requirement type field. For example, if you selected Resource type, the list displays all the resource types: Vendor Human resources Machine Tool Location
Operations scheduling	Select this check box to consider the requirement when you run operations scheduling.
Job scheduling	Select this check box to consider the requirement when you run job scheduling.
Minimum level needed	If you select Capability in the Requirement type field, you can also specify the minimum level of proficiency. When you run scheduling, the scheduling engine selects all resources that satisfy the capability requirement and the minimum level of proficiency required.
Minimum level needed	Specify a specific skill rating level required for the skill. This field is relevant when you specify a skill as a requirement. The scheduling engine only selects human resources with the selected skill and a skill rating level that matches the rating level specified. Human resources with higher or lower rating levels are not selected.
Resource	Identify the operations resource or operations resource group that can be used for the operation. For more information, see Resources (form) and Resource groups (form). By default, the field is filled in with the resource or resource group for the operation. You can change the value. For more information, see Operations (form).
Remain status	The steps that remain to be performed for a specific operation. The remain status is related to the production's back order status. For more information, see Production orders (form).
Start date	The scheduled start date for the operation. The start date is calculated with operations scheduling or jobs scheduling.
Start time	The scheduled start time for the operation. The start time is calculated with jobs scheduling.
End date	The scheduled end date for the operation. The end date is calculated with operations scheduling or jobs scheduling.
End time	The scheduled end time for the operation. The end time is calculated with jobs scheduling.
Department	Define dimensions for posting to the General ledger module. If dimensions are defined on the operations resource or operations resource group, they are automatically transferred to the operation in the production route. If dimensions are not defined on the operations resource or operations resource group, they are transferred from the production order.
Cost center	Define dimensions for posting to the General ledger module. If dimensions are defined on the operations resource or operations resource group, they are automatically transferred to the operation in the production route. If dimensions are not defined on the operations resource or operations resource group, they are transferred from the production order.
Purpose	Define dimensions for posting to the General ledger module. If dimensions are defined on the operations resource or operations resource group, they are automatically transferred to the operation in the production route. If dimensions are not defined on the operations resource or operations resource group, they are transferred from the production order.
Created date and time	The date and time that the document reference was created.
Type	Select the document type in the list when you create a new record by clicking the New button in the form or the New command on the File menu. The document type cannot be changed after the record is created.
Description	A brief description of the document.
