Inquiry (form)

The Inquiry form is used in several places in Microsoft Dynamics AX. Some of the following information might not apply to the form or report that you are viewing.

  • Click Human resources > Inquiries > Workers > Worker distribution statistics. Click Inquiry.

  • Click System administration > Common > Data export/import > Definition groups. Click Select tables, select a table in the list, select Apply criteria, and then click Export criteria.

Use this form to filter and sort records that are returned by queries. The Structure section displays the tables that are included in the query.

Select a saved query in the list.

Range

Specify criteria for fields in the selected table to refine the results that are returned by the query.

Sorting

Set up sorting for the query results.

If you have two or more sorting criteria, you can use the Down and Up buttons to change the sort order.

Date options

Specify filters that include only records that were active as of a specific date.

This tab is not included in all Inquiry forms. The tab is included only in the forms that include data about effective dates.

Aggregate

Select an aggregate function to add to the query results for a specific field.

This tab is not included in all Inquiry forms. The tab is primarily used for audit policies, as part of compliance and internal controls.

Group by

Specify how to group the records in the query results.

Having

Specify an aggregate condition that records must meet to be included in query results.

Table

Select the table to use in the query.

Derived table

The names of the derived tables of the selected table. Some tables in Microsoft Dynamics AX are associated with other tables that are known as derived tables. Derived tables inherit the structure of the data from the table that they are derived from. If derived tables are associated with a table, you can select a derived table. From the derived table that you select, you can then select the fields to include in the query results.

Note

If a table has no derived tables, the Derived table column displays the name of the original table.

Field

For the selected table, select the field to use in the query.

Criteria

Select or type the conditions that the field must match to be returned by the query. You can use wildcard characters, such as asterisks (*).

Search direction

Select the sorting order for the records: Ascending or Descending.

Aggregate function

Select the aggregate function to use in the query:

  • Average

  • Sum

  • Minimum

  • Maximum

  • Count

Show records active now

Restrict the query results so that they include only records that are currently active.

Show records active as of

Select this option to restrict the query results so that they include only records that were active on or before a specific date. Then enter a date.

Show records active in the period

Select this option to restrict the query results so that they include only records that were active in a specific period. Then define the period by using the From and To fields. If the table has date-time revision granularity, a universal time control is displayed.
