Production - Job scheduling (class form)

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Click Production control > Periodic > Scheduling > Job scheduling.

Use this form to create and run a job schedule. As opposed to operations scheduling, which gives you a general estimate of the production process over time, job scheduling gives you a detailed schedule that considers the current capacity.

If you are also using operations scheduling, job scheduling is performed after operations scheduling. This lets an operation include times for individual tasks. An accurate and detailed schedule is created, because you can control the following factors in the process:

  • The queue time before the operation

  • The setup time

  • The process run time

  • The overlap time

  • The transport time

  • The queue time after the operation is completed

Default values

Open the Set up job scheduling form, where you can set up standard default values to use when you run a job scheduling. For more information, see Set up job scheduling (form).

Sorting

Select the sorting method to use to sort the production orders.

Fields

Field

Description

Production

Select the production to schedule.

If you opened this form from the Production orders form, the selected production is displayed. You can select a different production by clicking Select. You can select productions that have any production status except Reported as finished or Cost accounted.

Scheduling direction

Specify the scheduling direction to use for the production order. Select from the following options:

  • Forward from today – Schedule forward from the current system date. You can specify the time when job scheduling starts.

  • Forward from planned start – Schedule forward from an earlier start date. If this is the first scheduling, the direction is forward from today.

  • Forward from scheduling date – Schedule forward from the scheduling date that is specified in the Scheduling date field. If a scheduling date is not specified, the direction is forward from today.

  • Backward from ship date – Schedule backward from the delivery date that is specified for the production order. If you select this scheduling option, and a delivery date is not specified, the delivery date is set to the current date.

  • Backward from planned end – Schedule backward from a previously calculated ending date. If this is the first scheduling, the ending date is set to the current date.

  • Backward from scheduling date – Schedule backward from the scheduling date that is specified in the Scheduling date field. If a scheduling date is not specified, it is set to the current date.

  • Backward from action date – Schedule backward from the action date that was calculated for the production order the last time a requirement was calculated. If an action date is not specified for the production order, it is set to the current date.

  • Backward from futures date – Schedule backward from the futures date that was calculated for the production order the last time a requirement was calculated. If a futures date is not specified for the production order, the futures date is set to the current date.

  • As last scheduling – Together with operations scheduling and job scheduling, the selected scheduling direction and date are saved. You can select this option for subsequent scheduling. If this is the first time the production order is scheduled, scheduling is performed backward from the current date.

  • Forward from tomorrow – Schedule forward from the current system date plus one day.

  • Forward from previous job – This function is relevant only for job scheduling. If you select this option for operations scheduling, the production order is scheduled forward from the current date.

In job scheduling, scheduling is established for one job, and all other jobs for the production are scheduled accordingly. The current job is specified in the Job identification field. If you then select a job and select Forward from previous job, job scheduling is based on the previous job. The current job, job 2, is moved behind job 1, and the other jobs for the production are moved behind them. This can be useful, for example, when you want to base the schedule on a specific job.

If no job is specified in the Job identification field, or if this is the first job scheduling, the planned order is scheduled forward from the current date.

  • Backward from previous job – This function is relevant only for job scheduling. If you select this scheduling direction for operations scheduling, planned orders are scheduled backward from the current date.

Job scheduling is based on a specific job, and all other jobs for the production are scheduled according to that job.

You specify the current job in the Job identification field. If you specify a job, and you select Backward from previous job, job scheduling is based on the placement of the previous job in time. If no job is specified in Job identification field, or if this is the first job scheduling, the planned order is scheduled backward from the current date.

Scheduling date

The date that is used when you select Forward from scheduling date or Backward from scheduling date in the Scheduling direction field.

Time

The time when the scheduling will occur.

Job identification

The job that the scheduling is based on.

Reschedule single job

Select this check box to reschedule the selected job. This check box is available only for production orders that have already been scheduled.

Note

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

New resource

The new resource to use for the job that is specified in the Job identification field.

Primary resource selection

Select the scheduling engine optimization strategy to use. Select from the following options:

  • Duration – Select the resource that has the shortest lead time.

    Note

This can decrease performance when a resource group includes many resources, and secondary operations are used. You can schedule a maximum of 32 resources per operation. If you exceed this quantity, an Infolog message is displayed, and the job scheduling does not find an alternative resource.

  • Priority – Select the resource that has the highest priority when two or more resources have identical capabilities and levels. The resource that has the lowest numeric value in this field has the highest priority.

Schedule references

Select this check box if you want to schedule reference productions.

Reference productions are scheduled according to the main production. In relation to the current production, overlying productions are scheduled forward, and underlying productions are scheduled backward. You can view production order references in the Reference level field in the Production orders form.

Synchronize references

Select this check box if the productions that are related to the production that is specified in the Production field are scheduled based on the starting times and ending times for production.

This check box is available only if the Schedule references check box is selected. When you set up job scheduling, you specify the job that all other jobs for the production and reference productions are scheduled according to.

Finite capacity

Select this check box if you want the job scheduling to include capacity limits.

Finite material

Select this check box if you want the job scheduling to consider materials as finite. If the materials are finite, the coverage of material for that time is considered. Scheduling considers the item futures dates for the items, reserves the raw materials, and explodes the current production. If scheduling occurs more than one time, only the first scheduling explodes the production and makes reservations.

If you change the bill of materials or the route for the production, the next scheduling runs an explosion. The explosion is based on the calculation of materials that are required on the scheduling date.

Because the production is not scheduled at the time of the master schedule explosion, the current date is used as the best estimate of when the items will become available. The explosion verifies whether the items are on hand. If the items are not on hand by the current date, a planned order is generated, and an offset selection is made for the planned order.

If automatic firming is set up for the planned order, the planned order is firmed automatically for purchase or production. The status for production automatically changes to the status that is specified in the Requested production status field in the Coverage group form.

Clear this check box if you want the materials to always be considered on-hand materials.

Finite property

Select this check box if you want the job scheduling to include property requirements.

Cancel queue time

Select this check box if you do not want to schedule queue time.

Cancel setup

Select this check box if you do not want to schedule setup time.

Cancel process

Select this check box if you do not want to schedule run time.

Cancel overlap

Select this check box if you do not want to schedule overlap time.

Cancel transport

Select this check box if you do not want to schedule transit time.

Late selection

If you set up batch processing to recur indefinitely, select this check box to process new production orders.

Note

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.
