Create serial numbers (form)

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Click Inventory management > Journals > Item arrival > Item arrival. Click Lines > Functions > Create serial numbers.

Use this form to establish the conditions for creating serial numbers.

If, for example, you buy 3 pieces of an item that you want to assign the following sequential serial numbers: ABC-1-DEF, ABC-2-DEF, and ABC-3-DEF. Then you would must fill in the Format field as follows: ABC-#-DEF. The number sign (#) represents the code for sequential numbering. If 100 pieces were involved, the field would resemble this: ABC-###-DEF.

The Start and End fields are filled in automatically (starting with 1 and ending with 100, for 100 pieces), but they can be changed manually. Any changes in the starting number will be immediately reflected in the ending number, and vice versa.

When you have defined the format, click OK, and the lines will be generated with the serial numbers that you have defined.

Note

For example, you receive a lot with the following serial numbers: 12345678987654321-32, 12345678987654321-77, 12345678987654321-83. The first 17 characters are the same, but the last 2 characters are not sequential. You type 0 (zero) in Start and End fields. You then enter the first 17 identical characters in the Format field, and then click OK. This generates the first 17 characters on each line, and you can manually add the last two figures.
