Variable groups

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Variable groups are used to control how modeling variables are shown in the product model user dialog box.

Groups that are attached to a product model in this manner are subsequently used to group the individual modeling variables. A modeling variable can be attached to a group by using the Variable group field on the Modeling variables tab of the Product model form. All modeling variables in a product model must be attached to a group. Modeling variables that are not members of a group will not be shown in the user dialog box. Therefore, they will be unavailable to the users.

Arranging the groups

The groups can be arranged in a hierarchy by using a drag-and-drop operation on the Tree tab. The hierarchy that you create controls when and how a specific variable is shown in the user dialog box. If you construct a hierarchy that is deeper than two levels and you want to make all levels visible to the user, select the Show user dialog box as tree structure check box in the User dialog box area in the Product builder parameters form. Click Product information management > Setup > Product builder > Product builder parameters.

Group validation

You can use the group validation function to create the validation rules for a group of variables. Group validation rules are run whenever the user leaves the current group in the user dialog box.

Array

The Array and Max. fields indicate that a variable group should present its variables as an array in which each variable is shown as a column with several rows, and specify how many array elements, or rows, the array should contain.
