Cost explorer (form)

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Click Product information management > Common > Released products. Select Manage inventory, click Transactions, select Inventory, Cost explorer.

Use this form to trace the origin of cost prices through a tree structure view of issues and receipts. You must execute an inventory closing before you can use the tree structure because the tree structure uses the inventory settlements that are coming from inventory closings to display cost price dependencies.

You can expand the nodes of the tree structure to see how cost prices are calculated. The cost price of a node is the sum the cost prices of the underlying nodes.

Example

Using the Cost explorer form, you could:

  • Expand a sales order line to view the settled receipts.

  • Expand a production order to view all the transactions that are included in the cost price of the production order.

  • Expand a transfer receipt to view the transfer issues.

Graphic symbols applied in this form

Receipt View any receipt in inventory where the cost price can be traced to adjustments and receipt origins.

Receipt origin View the lowest level of receipts, which are receipts where the cost price is not adjusted.

Adjustment View adjustments such as charges that cause changes to the cost price.

Route consumption View the production route and trace how the cost price of a production is calculated.

Circularity View whether the cost price is based on circularity. When the circularity symbol is displayed, you cannot drill down any more in the tree structure.

Circularity can occur when transactions that move items are used and the cost price of an issue is based on its own cost price.

The number of times the inventory closing is set to recalculate, or circulate, determines how close you are to the actual cost price of receipts.
