Fields (Development page)
For more information, see Setting Development Options in the developer documentation on MSDN.
Fields (SQL page)
Use the fields on this page to set SQL tracing options for Microsoft Dynamics AX. SQL tracing methods monitor specific SQL Server events.
For more information about tracing, see the Microsoft Dynamics AX developer documentation.
The following sections are included on this page:
Multiple SQL statements – Use the options in this section to monitor SQL statements that are sent between AOS and database. We recommend that you use these options only in a development environment.
Long queries – Use the options in this section to locate single SQL statements that exceed a user-defined time. The Threshold value defines the length, in milliseconds, of a long-running query.
These options can be useful in both development and testing environments. By setting low thresholds for the query time, you can find and remove performance bottlenecks. These options can also be useful in production environments. By setting high thresholds, you can perform monitoring.
Warnings – Use the options in this section to warn the developer when code fragments or constructions force the kernel to make changes. Warnings that are related to performance are also issued.
Deadlocks – Use the options in this section to track bottlenecks in multiuser environments.
Note
If you enable these options, you do not enable or disable the standard handling of deadlocks in Microsoft Dynamics AX.

Fields (Preload page)
The Preload option loads all the data from a SQL database table when the table is first accessed. This option can improve performance and scalability for static data that is frequently accessed. By preloading information, you can reduce potential bottlenecks in the database.
Evaluate the tradeoff between the time that is required to preload the information and the time that is required to access the information later. If you access the information frequently and for extended periods, you can improve performance by preloading the information. If you perform limited lookups and maintain the session for a limited time, you might not want to preload large amounts of data.
A table can be preloaded only if the CacheLookup property is set to EntireTable in the Application Object Tree (AOT). All records in the table are then saved in the cache the first time that the data is accessed.
Because of a specific user’s usage pattern, access to a given table may be faster if the table is not preloaded. In this case, the Preload option can be deactivated for only that user. If a table is so large that the initial load time exceeds any gains in access time, deactivate preloading for all users by deactivating the option for the Admin user.
To select a table so that it is preloaded, select the check box next to the table ID. If you cannot select the check box, preloading of the table has been deactivated for all users.
Note
If the data in a preloaded table is modified, Microsoft Dynamics AX preloads the data again the next time that the table is accessed.
