Customizing Online Help

Because the smooth operation of your business depends on people in the organization using Microsoft CRM 3.0 in a way that is appropriate to your operating procedures, you might decide to modify the Microsoft CRM online Help files by adding topics that are specific to your business.

Making changes to the Help files requires the ability to modify an HTML file using a tool that can edit HTML (such as NotePad, Microsoft Word, or a third-party HTML editor). Making changes to the table of contents requires the ability to edit an XML file. Complete instructions for changing both the Help files and the table of contents files are provided here, so that even if you have never modified an XML file, you will find it easy to add topics to the table of contents.

Important   Changes to Help files are not supported when you reinstall or upgrade Microsoft CRM. Therefore, it is recommended that you back up your table of contents files as well as any modified or new Help files. Then, after you reinstall or upgrade Microsoft CRM, you can copy your content changes to the new table of contents, and copy your original Help topic file changes to the new Help topic files generated by the reinstallation or upgrade process.
