Use keyboard shortcuts

You can quickly accomplish routine tasks by using the following keyboard shortcuts, which are one or more keys you press on the keyboard to complete a task.

Note  The specific task you accomplish using a shortcut depends on where focus is in the program.

Which key combinations do you want to use?

Common shortcut keys

Press To
F10 Activate the main menu bar. Use the left and right arrow keys to move across the menu bar or the up and down arrow keys to move through the commands within each menu. Use CTRL+TAB to move among toolbars.
ENTER Launch a selected menu command.
ESC Close a menu, dialog box, or screen (except the main screen). 
DELETE Delete the selected item.
SHIFT+F10 Bring up shortcut menus.
CTRL+C Copy the selection to the Clipboard.
CTRL+X Cut the selected item or text and move it to the Clipboard.
CTRL+V Paste the Clipboard contents.
CTRL+Z Undo the previous action.
CTRL+Y Redo the previous action.
ALT+F4 Exit MapPoint.

Data mapping

Press To
CTRL+W Start the Data Mapping Wizard.
CTRL+I Start the Import Data Wizard.
CTRL+L Start the Link Data Wizard.
SHIFT+F9 Update any linked data sets.

Territories

Press To
CTRL+T Start the Create Territories Wizard or open the Territory Manager pane.

Working with drawings

Press To
CTRL+ENTER Insert a shape centered on the map when a shape has focus on the Drawing toolbar.
DOWN ARROW KEY Open a submenu for the Create Pushpin, Fill Color, Line Color, or Text Color button when any of these items has focus on the Drawing toolbar.
ARROW KEYS Move the selected drawing in large increments.
SHIFT+ARROW KEYS Resize the selected drawing in large increments. Left arrow key makes it more narrow; right arrow key makes it wider; up arrow key makes it shorter; down arrow key makes it taller.
CTRL+ARROW KEYS Move the selected drawing in small increments.
CTRL+SHIFT+ARROW KEYS Resize drawings in small increments.
TAB

Select the first drawing if focus is on the map but a drawing is not selected.

Move among drawings if focus is on the map and a drawing is selected. Use SHIFT+TAB to move in the reverse direction of TAB.

CTRL+TAB Rotate between types of selections (such as route stops, Pushpins, drawings, and so on) if focus is on the map. Use CTRL+SHIFT+TAB to move in the reverse direction of CTRL+TAB.

Using Help

Press To
F1 Launch MapPoint Help.
F6

Switch between the right and left Help panes when Help is the active window.

SHIFT+F1 Launch What's This? Help.

Working with the map

Press To
ARROW KEYS Move the map in the direction of the arrow that is pressed if focus is on the map.
CTRL+M Change the map style.
CTRL+E Activate the Measure Distance tool.
CTRL+SHIFT+C Copy the map to the Clipboard.
ALT+LEFT ARROW Go back to the previous map view.
ALT+RIGHT ARROW After going back, return to the previous map view.
(-) Zoom the map view out.
(+) Zoom the map view in.
ESC Cancel selection of an item on the map (Pushpin, route stop, place name, and so on).

Working with menus, toolbars, and windows

Press To
TAB Move sequentially through buttons, options, menus, hot spots, and lists on a screen, in text, or in a dialog box if focus is not on the map. Use SHIFT+TAB to move in the reverse direction of TAB.
ARROW KEYS

Move among items in a menu, list, or toolbar.

Show or hide sections of the map legend.

F6 Move among all the panes in the active window.
CTRL+F6 Move focus among the panes in the program.
CTRL+TAB Move to the next toolbar when focus is not on the map. Use CTRL+SHIFT+TAB to move in the reverse direction of CTRL+TAB.
ALT+underlined letter Open the corresponding menu. For example, a menu entitled File can be opened by pressing ALT+F.
ALT+SPACEBAR Open the menu of an active screen or box.

Pushpins

Press To
CTRL+ENTER Insert a Pushpin centered on the map when a Create Pushpin has focus on the Drawing toolbar.
F8 Show or hide information about a selected place or Pushpin, if available.
TAB

Select the first Pushpin if focus is on the map but a Pushpin is not selected.

Move among Pushpins if a Pushpin is selected. Use SHIFT+TAB to move in the reverse direction of TAB.

CTRL+TAB Rotate between types of selections (such as route stops, Pushpins, drawings, and so on) if focus is on the map. Use CTRL+SHIFT+TAB to move in the reverse direction of CTRL+TAB.
CTRL+I Start the Import Data Wizard.
SHIFT+F10 Edit Pushpin balloon text.

Routes

Press To
CTRL+R Plan a route.
CTRL+F5 Get directions.
TAB

Select the start point of a route if focus is on the map but a route stop is not selected.

Move among route stops if a route stop is selected. Use SHIFT+TAB to move in the reverse direction of TAB.

CTRL+TAB Rotate between types of selections (such as route stops, Pushpins, drawings, and so on) if focus is on the map. Use CTRL+SHIFT+TAB to move in the reverse direction of CTRL+TAB.

Finding places on the map

Press To
CTRL+F Find an address, place, data point, or latitude/longitude coordinate.
CTRL+D Find places near a point on the map.
CTRL+K Connect to the MSN Search page on the Web where you can find a list of links related to the place selected on the map.

Printing

Press To
CTRL+P Print a map.

Opening and saving map files

Press To
CTRL+N Clear the map and create a new one.
CTRL+O Open a map.
CTRL+S Save your map to a file.

MapPoint ActiveX Control

Press To
CTRL+SHIFT+T Change focus to and from the map when MapPoint is running inside the MapPoint ActiveX Control.
