How to Grant WMI Permissions for Message Tracking

 

This topic explains how to grant Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) permissions on an Exchange server for the user account or group that will perform message tracking.

Procedure

To grant WMI permissions for message tracking

  1. On the Exchange server on which you will track messages, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Computer Management.

  2. Expand Services and Applications.

  3. Click WMI Control.

  4. Right-click WMI Control and then select Properties.

  5. Click the Security tab.

  6. Expand Root.

  7. Select MicrosoftExchangeV2 and then click Security.

  8. Click Add to add the user accounts or groups that will be responsible for message tracking in the organization.

  9. For each group or user name that will be responsible for message tracking in the organization, select the Allow check box for the following permissions:

    • Execute Methods

    • Provider Write

    • Enable Account

    • Remote Enable

Note

You must grant these permissions on each Exchange server on which you will track messages.
