Lotus Domino Templates
Topic Last Modified: 2006-09-14
When a new Lotus Domino server is installed, several default templates are automatically placed in the server's data directory. A Lotus Domino template is an application with an .ntf extension, such as DiscSW6.ntf. These templates are used as the starting point for creating new Lotus Domino applications, which typically have .nsf file extensions, such as Status.nsf.
An application inherits the design (forms, fields, views, agents, and so on) from the template that was used to create it. Lotus Domino developers frequently create an application from a template and then customize the application to add additional functionality. Some applications are created from templates and are not modified at all, therefore ensuring that the design of the application is identical to the template on which it was based.
