Use the New Public Folder Database page of the New Public Folder Database wizard to enter the information necessary to create a new public folder database. A public folder database is a database that stores public folders, indexes their contents, and assists in the replication of the folders with other Exchange servers. A public folder database is stored as an Exchange database (.edb) file.

Before you use this wizard, be aware that a server can contain only one public folder database.

Note

You can perform some public folder database management tasks (including this one) in the Exchange Management Console. However, all other public folder management tasks are performed in the Exchange Management Shell. For more information about creating public folder databases in the Exchange Management Shell, see New-PublicFolderDatabase.

To run this wizard, the account you use must be delegated the following:

  • Exchange Server Administrator role and local Administrators group for the target server

Note

Creating the first public folder database in an organization requires Exchange Organization Administrators permissions.

  • Storage group name
    This read-only box displays the name of the storage group that you have selected in which to create the new public folder database.
  • Public folder database name
    Use this box to type the name of the new public folder database.
  • Database file path
    This box displays the location of the database file. To specify a different location, click Browse, and then use the Exchange Database dialog box to select the new location.
  • Mount this database
    Select this check box to mount this database immediately after it is created.
