The Microsoft® Exchange Best Practices Analyzer Tool queries the Active Directory® directory service to determine whether the Content Indexing Rebuild Schedule (msExchCIRebuildSchedule) attribute has been set to any non-null value and whether the Content Indexing Rebuild Style (msExchCIRebuildStyle) attribute has been set. These are attributes of each private mailbox database. If the Analyzer tool finds that both these attributes are configured for indexing, a warning is displayed.

Running content indexing, also referred to as "full-text indexing," on a mailbox store is not recommended because full-text indexing is resource intensive, and mailbox data changes frequently. Therefore, keeping an up-to-date index of a given database is a very resource-intensive process. Full-text indexing is better suited for public folders.

If you want to run full-text indexing on a mailbox store, it is recommended that you set the indexing schedule to frequently update and monitor the computer's performance to ensure that the computer is not overwhelmed and remains able to deliver mail and respond to client requests while indexing the content.

Otherwise, it is recommended that you disable full-text indexing by deleting the full-text index on the mailbox store.

  1. Open Exchange System Manager.

  2. Expand Administrative Groups, expand your administrative group, expand Servers, expand your server, expand your storage group, right-click Mailbox Store, and then click Delete Full-Text Index.
