CatDbgSink Event Sink Installed
Topic Last Modified: 2005-11-18
The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool reads the data found in the LM/SmtpSvc/%SMTPINSTANCE%/EventManager/EventTypes property in the Internet Information Services (IIS) metabase to determine whether the CatDbgSink mail flow diagnostic application is installed on a computer that is running Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003.
The CatDbgSink application is an event sink that can be used for troubleshooting mail flow problems on computers that are running Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003. If the CatDbgSink application is installed on the Exchange server, the Exchange Server Analyzer displays a warning stating that the CatDbgSink application is installed and should be used only when you troubleshoot mail flow problems.
The CatDbgSink application is generally sent to customers for troubleshooting mail flow issues on both Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 2003 computers. The CatDbgSink application is generally installed with the guidance of Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS). After the CatDbgSink application is installed and successfully registered, customers can use the CatDbgSink application to create log files to collect troubleshooting information about mail flow problems on an Exchange server.
Sometimes the CatDbgSink application cannot be removed from the production Exchange server after you have isolated and fixed a problem or problems. If the CatDbgSink application is not removed from the Exchange computer, the CatDbgSink application creates a significant load that causes unwanted performance issues on the Exchange server. After you have diagnosed mail flow issues on a production Exchange server, you must remove the CatDbgSink application. To correct this warning
Locate the local CatDbgSink installation folder. This folder contains the following setup files: Setup.vbs, CatDbgSink.dll, CatDbgSink.pdb and MustReadMe.txt.
From a Command Prompt window, change the directory to the local drive location of the setup files, for example: C:\CatDbgSink.
At the command prompt, type
cscript setup.vbs uninstall 1
|The number 1 in the command line designates the SMTP virtual server instance, starting at 1.|
