Enable Storage Group Local Continuous Replication Wizard > Database Page

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007 SP3, Exchange Server 2007 SP2, Exchange Server 2007 SP1

Use the Enable Storage Group Local Continuous Replication wizard to enable a storage group for local continuous replication (LCR). LCR uses asynchronous replication technology that creates a copy of a storage group and maintains its currency through change propagation. The following sequence represents the LCR life cycle:

  • The life cycle starts when a copy is created by configuring a copy of a storage group. The storage group must exist and have a defined location for the LCR copy. If databases exist in the storage group that is being enabled for LCR, the wizard will also walk you through enabling the databases for LCR.

  • When it is designated as a copy, the new LCR storage group can be seeded. Seeding is the process in which a database, either a blank database or a copy of the production database, is added to the storage group copy's database folder.

  • When seeding is complete, the copy is designated as being in replay. In this process, the copied transaction log files are being replayed into the database.

We recommend that you verify the health and status of the storage group copy after it has been seeded. For detailed steps that explain how to view status information, see How to View the Status of a Local Continuous Replication Copy.

Use the Database page to specify the path to the database file for the LCR passive copy:

  • Storage Group Name   This read-only field shows the storage group that will be enabled for LCR.

  • Database name   This read-only field shows the database that will be enabled for LCR.

  • Local Continuous Replication Exchange database file path   Use the Browse button for this field to specify the location of the LCR database file. The location should be on a disk volume that does not contain a production storage group. If the intended folder does not exist, you can use the Make New Folder button on the Browse for Folder dialog box to create a new folder.

After you have reviewed the fields on this page of the wizard, click Next to continue the wizard.
