[This topic is intended to address a specific issue called out by the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool. You should apply it only to systems that have had the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool run against them and are experiencing that specific issue. The Exchange Server Analyzer Tool, available as a free download, remotely collects configuration data from each server in the topology and automatically analyzes the data. The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool queries the Active Directory® directory service to determine whether the value for the msExchUserAccountControl attribute on the journaling recipient object is set to indicate a disabled user account. If the value of the journaling recipient object msExchUserAccountControl attribute is 2, this indicates that journaling has been configured to copy journaling messages to a user account that is disabled. This configuration can cause the journaling messages to queue or to be sent to the Badmail folder. If the Exchange Server Analyzer finds that the value of the journaling recipient's msExchUserAccountControl attribute is set to indicate a disabled journaling recipient user account, Exchange Server Analyzer displays an error.

To correct this error for Exchange Server 2003, use Active Directory Users and Computers and Exchange System Manager to accomplish the following as required:

  • Enable the current journaling recipient's user account.

  • Designate a new user mailbox as the journaling recipient.

  1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers.

  2. In the console tree, expand the domain.
