Directory Replication Connector schedule

[This topic is intended to address a specific issue called out by the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool. You should apply it only to systems that have had the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool run against them and are experiencing that specific issue. The Exchange Server Analyzer Tool, available as a free download, remotely collects configuration data from each server in the topology and automatically analyzes the data. The resulting report details important configuration issues, potential problems, and nondefault product settings. By following these recommendations, you can achieve better performance, scalability, reliability, and uptime. The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool queries the Active Directory® directory service to determine what the value is for the activationSchedule attribute of each Active Directory Connector (ADC) connection agreement object. The activationSchedule attribute corresponds to how frequently an ADC connection agreement is run. A value of 0 indicates the replication schedule is set to Never. A value of 1 indicates the schedule is set to Selected Times. A value of 2 indicates the schedule is set to Always.

The Exchange Server Analyzer also queries Active Directory to determine the value of the msExchServer2SearchFilter attribute on each ADC connection agreement object. The msExchServer2SearchFilter attribute represents the search filter that will be used when you search the directory.

If the Exchange Server Analyzer finds that the activationSchedule attribute is set to Selected Times, with a replication interval longer than 6 hours, and that the msExchServer2SearchFilter attribute is replicating recipient information, a warning is displayed.

Generally, it is best practice to set the replication schedule of recipient connection agreement to always replicate (Always). In some cases, setting the connection agreement to any other schedule may cause non-delivery reports (NDRs) after mailboxes are moved from Exchange Server 5.5 sites to Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003.

To correct this warning

  1. Open the Active Directory Connector Services MMC snap-in.

  2. Open the Connection Agreement.

  3. On the Connection_Agreement Properties page, click the Schedule tab, click Always, and then click OK.
