[This topic is intended to address a specific issue called out by the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool. You should apply it only to systems that have had the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool run against them and are experiencing that specific issue. The Exchange Server Analyzer Tool, available as a free download, remotely collects configuration data from each server in the topology and automatically analyzes the data. The resulting report details important configuration issues, potential problems, and nondefault product settings. By following these recommendations, you can achieve better performance, scalability, reliability, and uptime. The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool queries the CIM_Datafile Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI).to verify that the Mountmgr.sys driver exists.

The Exchange Server Analyzer then reads the following registry value to determine which version of the Microsoft Windows® operating system is running on the Exchange server: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\CurrentVersion

If the CurrentVersion value equals 5.0, the Exchange server is running on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. If the CurrentVersion value is 5.2, the Exchange server is running on Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003.

The Exchange Server Analyzer also queries the Win32_Service Microsoft Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI) class to determine the value of the Started key for the Cluster service (ClusSvc). A value of TRUE indicates the Cluster service is started, and a value of FALSE indicates the Cluster service is not running.

The Exchange Server Analyzer displays a warning if the following conditions are true:

  • The Exchange Server computer is running on Windows Server 2003.

  • Windows Server 2003 SP1 is not installed.

  • The Exchange Server runs in a clustered environment.

  • Volume mount points exist.

The warning indicates that if the Exchange cluster node environment is upgraded to Windows Server 2003 SP1, you will require the update referenced in the following section. Without this update you may experience volume mount point failures after the upgrade.
