[This topic is intended to address a specific issue called out by the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool. You should apply it only to systems that have had the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool run against them and are experiencing that specific issue. The Exchange Server Analyzer Tool, available as a free download, remotely collects configuration data from each server in the topology and automatically analyzes the data. The resulting report details important configuration issues, potential problems, and nondefault product settings. The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool queries the Active Directory® directory service to determine the value of the versionNumber attribute on each connection agreement object. The versionNumber attribute represents the version of Active Directory Connector (ADC) that is running on the computer.

The Exchange Server Analyzer Tool also queries the CIM_Datafile Microsoft Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI) class to determine the value of the Version key for Adc.exe, the Active Directory Connector (ADC) file. The Version WMI key indicates the build number for this file.

The Exchange Server Analyzer displays a warning if following conditions are true:

  • The versionNumber attribute on the connection agreement object is set to 16973842.

  • The versionNumber attribute on the connection agreement object is set to 16973843 and the value of the Version key for Adc.exe is less than 7250.0.

A value of 16973842 indicates that the computer is running the original commercial version of ADC from the Exchange Server 2003 CD and a value of 16973843 with a Version key for Adc.exe of less than 7250.0 indicates that the computer is running the Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) version of ADC.

A newer version of ADC is available with Service Pack 2 for Exchange Server 2003. It is recommended that you use the latest version of ADC as a best practice.

To correct this warning

  1. Go to Service Pack 2 for Exchange Server 2003 https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54751 to download the latest version of ADC.

  2. Uninstall the existing version of ADC and install the updated version of ADC.
