How to Configure DNS Settings on the Exchange Server

The Exchange Server should point to the primary (local) DNS server for your domain. If you have multiple local DNS servers, you can configure Exchange Server to point to any of them. However, it is recommended that Exchange Server point to the primary DNS server for that domain.

To specify which DNS server the Exchange servers point to, you must access the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box.

Procedure

How to configure DNS settings on the Exchange Server

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Network and Dial-up Connections.

  2. Double-click Local Area Connection, and then, in Local Area Connection Status, click Properties.

  3. In Local Area Connection Properties, under Components checked are used by this connection, double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

  4. In Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties, verify that DNS is configured correctly.
