Manually Update a Trust from Federation Metadata

In Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) 2.0, you can manually update a claims provider or relying party trust from federation metadata only if a federation metadata URL is specified. You can use the following procedure to manually update either a claims provider or relying party trust from published federation metadata. Using this procedure makes it possible for configuration updates to be replicated over the Internet, instead of retyping them manually within the properties of each trust.
To manually update a trust from federation metadata
Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click AD FS 2.0.
Click the AD FS 2.0\Trust Relationships folder, and then click either Claims Provider Trusts or Relying Party Trusts, depending on which trust you want to update.
In the details pane, click the claims provider trust or relying party trust that you want to update from federation metadata.
In the Action pane, click Update from Federation Metadata.
In the properties dialog box for the trust, click Update to start the update.
When the update completes, click OK.
