Outlook Web Access

The Outlook Web Access client that does not use the S/MIME control provides the same degree of S/MIME functionality for both Premium and Basic clients. When not using the S/MIME control, Outlook Web Access provides support for displaying only clear-signed messages. The signature is not validated and it is discarded when replying to or forwarding a message. Also, encrypted messages are not supported and are displayed as an attached .p7m message.

Support for displaying clear-signed messages in Outlook Web Access is automatic. There is no configuration necessary to enable this capability. Also, this capability is not configurable. You cannot disable this capability.

Because of these capabilities and limitations, if you implement Outlook Web Access without the S/MIME control, no other steps are needed for S/MIME support. For more information about S/MIME capabilities that Outlook Web Access without the S/MIME control supports, see S/MIME Support in Exchange 2003 E-Mail Clients.
