The managed folder assistant detected an invalid update made to a managed folder mailbox policy in Active Directory.

Explanation

This Error event indicates that the managed folder mailbox assistant (formerly known as e-mail life cycle assistant) found that the folder type for the managed folder that is specified in the event description was changed from managed default folder to managed custom folderor vice-versa. The managed folder mailbox assistant is a time-based Exchange assistant that provisions the managed folders in user mailboxes on scheduled intervals.

For more information about managed folders, managed content settings, managed folder mailbox policy, and managed folder assistant, see Deploying Messaging Records Management.

This event may be logged if the folder type of a specific managed folder is changed after you configure managed content settings for that folder.

User Action

For a successful folder provisioning, the folder type for the managed folder that is specified in the event description should be changed back to what it was when the managed content settings were configured. To do this, follow the steps given in this section:

Caution   If you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory® directory service objects when you use Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) Edit, the LDP (ldp.exe) tool, or another Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) version 3 client, you may cause serious problems. These problems may require that you reinstall Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, or both. Modify Active Directory object attributes at your own risk.

  1. Start ADSI Edit.

  2. Double-click the Configuration container, expand CN=Services, expand CN=Microsoft Exchange, and then expand CN=<ExchangeOrganizationName>.

  3. Expand CN=ELC Folders Container

  4. Select the folder that is specified in the event description, right-click it, and then click Properties.

  5. In the Attribute Editor, click the msExchELCFolderType attribute, and then click Edit.

  6. Check that a value of 5 applies to a Managed Default Folder and a value of 13 applies to a Managed Custom Folder.

  7. Close ADSI Edit.

On the next scheduled interval, the managed folder assistant should be able to provision the mailbox successfully.
