The categorizer configuration cannot be refreshed because the new configuration is invalid.

Explanation

This Error event indicates that the categorizer configuration can't be refreshed because the new categorizer configuration is invalid.

Every message that is sent or received by a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Hub Transport server or Edge Transport server must be categorized before it can be routed and delivered. On an Edge Transport server, categorization is a short process in which the message is put directly into a delivery queue. On a Hub Transport server, the categorizer completes the following steps:

  • Recipient resolution, which includes top-level addressing, expansion, and bifurcation

  • Routing resolution

  • Content conversion

For more information, see Transport Architecture.

User Action

To resolve this error, do one or more of the following:

  • Increase the diagnostic logging level on the Categorizer counter of the MSExchangeTransport performance object. You can increase logging by running the following Exchange Management Shell command:

    Set-EventLogLevel "MSExchangeTransport\Categorizer" -Level High

For more information about how to increase logging, see Changing Process Logging Levels.

  • Review other related Error and Warning events in the Application log. These related events may help you find the root cause of this error.

    Set-EventLogLevel "MSExchangeTransport\Categorizer" -Level Lowest
