The Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging service was unable to initialize because of a configuration file error. For more information, see the event description.

Explanation

This Error event indicates that an exception has occurred when the Unified Messaging configuration data file (UMConfig.xml) or the finite state machine files, for example, Logon.fsm, Fax.fsm, and DtmfMainMenu.fsm, are loaded during initialization of the Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging service. Therefore, the Unified Messaging service was stopped. The UMConfig.xml file contains references to the finite state machine files. The finite state machine files define the actions that are executed when the Unified Messaging service transits from one state to another. This event may be caused by the following conditions:

  • The UM configuration data file is damaged or missing.

  • One or more finite state machine files are damaged or missing.

User Action

To resolve this error, do the following:

  1. Replace the UMConfig.xml file and all the finite state machine files (*.fsm) with the default files located on the Exchange Server 2007 CD. The UMConfig.xml file and the finite state machine files are located in the \Setup\Server Roles\Common folder on the Exchange 2007 CD. The default location to replace these files on your UM Server is C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\bin.

  2. Restart the Unified Messaging service.
