MOM Rule Name

A user was disconnected by the Unified Messaging server because the user failed to log on consecutive times. The user did not enter the correct PIN.

Explanation

This Warning event indicates a Unified Messaging–enabled user tried to log on to their mailbox multiple, consecutive times with an incorrect PIN.

Note

The PIN differs from the password that is used by the user to log on to the Windows domain.

When this occurs, the user is disconnected from the computer that is running the Unified Messaging server role. Specifically, the Unified Messaging (UM) server may include a voice prompt such as: "Incorrect PIN, please try again later," and then disconnect the telephone call with the user. This event occurs when the following conditions are true:

  • When a UM-enabled user has incorrectly entered their PIN multiple, sequential times. Every time that a user tries to log on by using a PIN and does not use the correct password is considered an unsuccessful logon failure.

  • When the number of unsuccessful logon failures exceeds the value that is defined at the UM dial plan. This value is configured by using the Logon failures before disconnect setting. For information about the settings that you can configure on the dial plan properties object, see Organization Configuration > Unified Messaging > UM Dial Plan > Settings Tab.

For information about additional options that you can configure at the UM policy level, see Organization Configuration > Unified Messaging > UM Mailbox Policies > PIN Policies Tab.

User Action

To resolve this warning, do one or more of the following:

  • Make sure that the PIN for the user is correct and in supported PIN format. The PIN must be a numeric string. The UM PIN is generated by the UM server. It can be changed by the user on the first logon, or upon subsequent uses of the system.

  • If the user has forgotten their PIN, the PIN must be reset. You can reset the user's PIN using Exchange Management Console or the Exchange Management Shell. Alternatively, you can have users reset their own PIN using Microsoft® Office Outlook® 2007. For more information, see the following topics:

For more information about how to configure PIN security for UM-enabled users, see Configuring PIN Security for UM-enabled Users.
