LDAP Search Timeouts - sustained for 5 minutes - Red(>20).

Explanation

The LDAP Searches timed out per minute performance counter shows the number of LDAP search requests that timed out during the last minute. The average value should be less than 10 and the maximum value should not exceed 20.

This alert indicates that more than 20 LDAP searches per minute timed out for five minutes. This can be caused by a network connectivity loss between the Microsoft Exchange Server computer and the Active Directory directory service domain controller, a problem with the domain controller computer, or severe performance problems.

User Action

To resolve this error, do one or more of the following:

  • Verify network connectivity between the Exchange Server computer and the domain controllers it uses.

  • Verify that the domain controllers the Exchange Server computer uses are available.

  • Verify that the domain controllers the Exchange Server computer uses are not experiencing severe performance problems. You can investigate CPU usage, as well as disk and memory bottlenecks, on your Active Directory servers.

If you are having difficulty resolving the issue, contact Microsoft Product Support. For information about contacting support, visit the Contact Us page of the Microsoft Help and Support Web site.

If you are not already doing so, consider running the tools that Microsoft Exchange offers to help administrators analyze and troubleshoot their Exchange environment. These tools can help you make sure that your configuration is in line with Microsoft best practices. They can also help you identify and resolve performance issues, improve mail flow, and better manage disaster recovery scenarios. Go to the Toolbox node of the Exchange Management Console to run these tools now. For more information about these tools, see Toolbox in the Exchange Server 2007 Help.
