Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 will reach end of support on April 11, 2017. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007

Use the Message Delivery Restrictions dialog box to specify which senders are allowed to send or are prohibited from sending messages to this recipient.

Message delivery restrictions can be useful for controlling access to specific recipients in your Exchange 2007 organization. For example, several organizations specify that only a small set of users can send messages to very large distribution groups.

You can configure the following message delivery restrictions for a recipient.

  • Accept messages from
Select one of the following options for accepting messages:

    • All senders   The recipient will accept messages from all senders; both senders in the Exchange organization and external senders. This is selected by default.

      Note

This option includes external users only if you clear the Require that all senders are authenticated check box. If this check box is selected, messages from external users will be rejected, even if All Senders is selected.

    • Only senders in the following list   The recipient will accept messages only from a specified set of senders in the Exchange organization.

      • Click Add to select senders from whom to accept messages. The Select Recipient dialog box displays a list of all recipients in the Active Directory forest. Select the recipients you want, and then click OK. You can also search for a specific recipient by typing its name in the Search box and then clicking Find Now.

      • Click Remove icon to delete the selected sender from the list.

    • Require that all senders are authenticated   Select this check box to prevent anonymous users from sending messages to the recipient. By default, this check box is selected for distribution groups. This prevents external senders from sending messages to distribution groups.

  • Reject messages from
Select one of the following options for rejecting messages:

    • No senders   The recipient will not reject messages from any senders in the Exchange organization. This is selected by default.

    • Senders in the following list   The recipient will reject messages from a specified set of senders in the Exchange organization.

      • Click Add to select senders from whom the recipient will reject messages. The Select Recipient dialog box displays a list of all recipients in the Active Directory forest. Select the recipients you want, and then click OK. You can also search for a specific recipient by typing its name in the Search box and then clicking Find Now

      • Click Remove icon to delete the selected sender from the list.
