Select Recipient > Recipient Picker Scope (RTM)

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 will reach end of support on April 11, 2017. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007

Use the Recipient Picker Scope dialog box to change the Active Directory directory service scope for the recipients that are displayed in the Select Recipients dialog box. The "recipient picker" refers to the dialog box in which you select recipients for various tasks.

Note

The scope that you select in the Recipient Picker Scope dialog box is effective only for the Select Recipients dialog box that is currently open. It does not change the overall recipient scope that is configured in the Recipient Configuration node.

By default, the Select Recipients dialog box displays all recipients that are applicable to the task you are performing and are in the recipient scope that is configured in the Recipient Configuration node. For example, if you are creating a new room mailbox for an existing user, you will see only the disabled user accounts that are not mail-enabled within the recipient scope. To learn more about recipient scope, see Understanding Recipient Scope.

The scope of the recipient picker must be within the recipient scope that is configured in the Recipient Configuration node. For example, if the recipient scope is set to a specific organizational unit (OU) in Active Directory, you can select that OU or any other OUs under it as the scope for the recipient picker. You can set this scope to the entire forest only if the recipient scope in the Recipient Configuration node is also set to the entire forest. If the recipient scope in the Recipient Configuration node is not set to the entire forest, the View all recipients in forest option in the Recipient Picker Scope dialog box will not be available.

Note

One exception to this is the Select Recipient dialog box that opens when you are modifying the properties of a recipient (for example, adding members to a distribution group or assigning a manager to a mailbox, mail user or mail contact). For those dialog boxes, you can set the scope of the recipient picker to any level in Active Directory.

Select one of the following options for setting the scope of the recipient configuration.

  • View all recipients in forest
Click this button to display all recipients in the Active Directory forest.
  • View all recipients in specified organizational unit

    • Click this button to focus on the recipients in a specific domain or OU. If you click this button, you must also select an OU.

    • Organizational Unit   Click Browse to open the Select Organizational Unit dialog box. Click the organizational unit that you want to use, and then click OK.

      Note

You can also select an entire domain.
