Use the Connect to Network Folder task sequence action to create a connection to a shared network folder.
The Connect to Network Folder task sequence action can be run in a standard operating system or the Windows Preinstallation Environment (WinPE). For information about task sequence variables for this task sequence action, see Connect to Network Folder Task Sequence Action Variables.
You can configure the following settings:
- A short user-defined name that describes the action taken in this step.
- More detailed information about the action taken in this step
The location of the network folder in the form: \\servername\sharename. Click Browse to browse for the UNC path of the network folder.
Note When you click Browse, you are browsing from the computer running the Configuration Manager console. It is possible that computer might not have access to the network folder even though the target computer does when using the Account you specify. Consequently, you might need to manually enter the UNC path to the network folder rather than browsing for it.
- The drive letter to assign to the network connection. This field is optional. If no drive letter is specified, then the network share you specify is not mapped to a local drive letter. If you specify a drive letter that is already mapped to a different resource on the target computer, then the task sequence step will fail.
- The Windows account that the target computer will use that has permissions to access the specified network folder. Click Set to enter the User name in the format domain\user, and to enter and confirm the appropriate Password for the account to use. For more information, see About the Task Sequence Editor Network Folder Connection Account.
