About loading models

Updated: 2009-04-30

This topic includes information that you should consider when you are loading models in Planning Business Modeler.

General Considerations

Because of the size of some models, you might want to increase the Transact-SQL time-out value to make sure that the process has enough time to be completed. See Planning Administration Console documentation for directions about how to change session settings.

Security

You must be a member of the Data Administrator role to load models in Planning Business Modeler or to use the Planning Administration Console. For more information, see Security roles.

Annotation tables

Annotations exist for each measure group that is created when the Enable annotations property is set to True in Planning Business Modeler. If you have populated annotation tables in the staging database, the annotation tables will load when you load related models in Planning Business Modeler.

When you synchronize models to the staging database in Planning Business Modeler, related annotations are also synchronized. To learn more about synchronizing models and related annotations, see About synchronizing dimensions and models.

Linked Assumption Models

Loading a model only loads the related measure groups. Assumption models that are linked to the model are not loaded.

Also, if related measure group data is not in the staging database, the load will fail.

Shared Models

Shared models can only be loaded in the model site in which they were created.

To make sure a table is ready for loading, we recommend that you synchronize the table before loading, even if the table already is located in the staging database. Synchronize the dimensions for the related dimension and hierarchy tables before you load data. Synchronize the model for the related measure group and annotation tables before you load data.

Validation

When you use Planning Business Modeler to load dimension data in the staging database, Planning Business Modeler automatically validates the data before loading, unless explicitly instructed otherwise.

However, when you use the Planning Administration Console to load dimension data, validation is an option that you can enable or disable. See the Scriptable data integration topic for more information.
