Active Directory Preparation

This section explains how to run the following three basic procedures for preparing Active Directory:

• Prep Schema

• Prep Forest

• Prep Domain

  Note

  If permissions inheritance is disabled or authenticated user permissions must be disabled in your organization, there are additional steps you must perform during Prep Domain. See Appendix A: How to Prepare a Locked Down Active Directory, later in this guide.

You must perform Active Directory preparation steps on a computer running Windows Server 2003 SP1 or later, Windows Server 2003 R2 or later. You cannot perform Active Directory preparation on a computer running Windows 2000 Server or earlier versions or on any client versions of the Windows operating system.
