System Requirements

MSCMS 2001 Site Stager is an application that ships on the Microsoft Content Management Server 2001 product CD and is installed separately as described in this chapter. Site Stager converts MSCMS 2001 content, navigation, and links to static HTML and ASP files for later deployment on any Web server.

Note The current version of Site Stager works with the current version of Content Management Server 2001 only (and vice versa).

The Stage As User NT domain user account and the Destination User NT domain user account are used exclusively by Site Stager and must exist before installing Site Stager, or else the Site Stager installation will fail. Refer to the next section, "Creating the Destination User," for more information.

To install and run the Site Stager, you need the following products and enough free disk space to accommodate the staged site's files. The "Supported versions" column indicates the range of product versions from the earliest, to what we know to be the most recent version, on which you can install Content Management Server 2001.

Product name

Supported versions

Microsoft Windows (Server or Workstation)

Microsoft Java Virtual Machine

The Site Stager can be installed on any machine on the same domain as the MSCMS 2001 server. You must have Windows administrator rights for the machine on which you are running the Site Stager installation program.

Creating the Destination User

You must create the Destination User account before installing the Site Stager. Site Stager uses the Windows NT User Manager rights to create directories and files as it stages a site. The Destination User does not need to be a member of an MSCMS 2001 User Group.

Site Stager requires that the Destination User have "Log On As Batch Job" rights, and write privileges in all directories where the generated HTML files are stored. These rights and privileges can be explicitly granted to the Destination User account or inherited from an NT group to which the Destination User belongs. The Destination User must also have local administrator rights.

If the account you enter does not already have "Log On As Batch Job" and "Log on locally" rights, the Site Stager installation program grants them. Administrator rights must be manually granted using the Windows NT User Manager (or Users and Passwords in Windows 2000). If the destination user account is modified, ensure the new Destination User is given these rights on the Site Stager computer. We recommend creating Destination User accounts specifically for Site Stager use only.

Before installing Site Stager, ensure the Microsoft Task Scheduler Service and the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine are installed.

Changing the Destination User

If required, you can change the Destination User account from within the Site Stager program. To change the Destination User you must have administrator privileges on the machine on which the Site Stager is installed.

The new Destination User account must be granted "Log On As Batch Job" and "Log on locally" rights on the machine hosting the Site Stager.

The Destination User must also have local administrator rights.

  1. Launch the Site Stager Administration program from your Windows desktop (Start>Programs) as shown in the following screenshot.

  2. Click Configure in the Site Stager Administration window. The Destination User Setup window opens.

  3. Enter the new Destination User name and password.
