MSCMS 2001 Server Installation

The following messages can appear when installing or uninstalling the MSCMS 2001 server software.

There are some files pending update. We suggest rebooting the machine before
installing Microsoft Content Management Server. Do you want to continue with
the install?
  • Context: Due to a previous installation or uninstallation, some file changes are pending.

  • Action: Reboot the system to let these changes take effect. If you continue with the installation, there may be problems.

WBC Customizable is mapped to <> but it is an invalid directory.
  • Context: Content Management Server 2001 tries to back up the users' copy of the WBC Customizable files, but the directory mapped to the WBC Customizable virtual directory is invalid. Installation cannot proceed. This means the existing WBC won't work properly either.

  • Action: Remove the WBC Customizable virtual directory mapping in IIS, and then run the MSCMS 2001 installation program.

<existing Microsoft Content Management Server directory> cannot be renamed to
<backup directory>.
  • Context: Microsoft Content Management Server tries to back up the existing directory and files before doing the upgrade. This is done by renaming the MSCMS 2001 server directory to the backup directory. The rename operation failed.

  • Action: Retry the installation.

Cannot unregister file <old DLLs>.
Cannot register file <file name>.
  • Context: In an upgrade scenario, the old DLLs had to be unregistered before being replaced by the updated DLLs. This unregister attempt failed.

    • New DLLS had to be registered but failed for the indicated file.
  • Action: Retry the installation.

Database Installation

General error messages

The selected database appears to have contained Microsoft Content Management
Server data, but it has been corrupted and is now missing some of this data.
You will have to select a different database to use with this installation of
the Microsoft Content Management Server.
  • Context: The installation program has determined the selected database contains a corrupted version of the MSCMS 2001 database. The most likely cause is that a previous installation was ended during the database population.

  • Action: If this is not the case, restore from your most recent database backup and try again. If you are installing for the first time, delete the database and create a new empty database to use with Content Management Server 2001.

Could not get database platform. (Fatal Error)
  • Context: Errors of this nature indicate that a serious problem was encountered during installation.

  • Action: Try the installation again.

Microsoft SQL Server

The currently logged in user is not a member of the System Administrators
Server Role.
  • Context: The account used to populate the SQL Server database must have system administrator rights. The user running the MSCMS 2001 server installation program must have local system administrator rights on the database machine.

  • Action: Try to log on again using an account with system administrator rights on the SQL Server.

SQL Server Login <name> does not have SA privileges. Setup requires a Login
with SA privileges in order to install or upgrade the database.
  • Context: The account used to populate the SQL Server database must have system administrator rights.
Action: Retry using an account with system administrator rights on the SQL Server.
Microsoft Content Management Server requires at least version <V> of SQL
Server 7 version <V> or later.
  • Context: The installation program could not detect a compatible version of Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Action: Ensure Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 or greater is installed.

MSCMS 2001 Site Builder Installation

When installing the MSCMS 2001 Site Builder software the following messages could appear.

UnInstaller setup failed to initialize. You may not be able to uninstall this
product.
  • Context: An error was encountered while attempting to set up uninstall. If you select Yes to continue you might not be able to uninstall MSCMS 2001 Site Builder.

  • Action: Select Yes to continue or No to stop the installation.

An error occurred during the move data process.
  • Context: This type of error indicates that problems were encountered while installing the MSCMS 2001 Site Builder binaries to your computer.

  • Action: Retry the installation.

Server Configuration Application

When working with the MSCMS 2001 Server Configuration Application (SCA), the following messages could appear.

The user name you supplied is not a local administrator on the Microsoft
Content Management Server machine.
  • Context: The user is not logged in as a local administrator.

  • Action: Close all browser windows and use a different user name to log on again.

The primary Microsoft Content Management Server Web server entry point cannot be found.
Currently no Microsoft Content Management Server Entry Points.
  • Context: No MSCMS 2001 entry points are found on the local machine when displaying either the General tab page, or one of the dialog boxes.

  • Action: Run the Database Configuration Application.

No NT domains were found.
  • Context: The user tried to browse the NT Domain user in the SCA but the SCA couldn't connect to the domain in order to enumerate the users.

  • Action: Ensure the domain exists and the Primary Domain Controller (PDC) is currently on the network. The domains that appear in the Browse dialog box might be cached by the local machines's PDC.

The computer name and drive letters cannot be chosen as a cache folder. Please
select another folder.
  • Context: The user clicked the computer name or disk drive in the file system browser dialog and tried to select a root folder of a drive as the cache folder.

  • Action: The cache folder must be a sub-folder. Click the plus sign (+) to expand the tree and select another folder.

Maximum cache size cannot be larger than the free space available on the
selected drive.
  • Context: In the Cache Configuration dialog box, the value for the Maximum Disk Cache Size is larger than the value of free space of the drive with the disk cache folder.

  • Action: Enter a smaller number than the free space of the drive.

    • If the error has been caused by moving folders to another location on the same drive, resulting in many files in the current cache folder, and in little free space, do the following: shut down IIS, delete the current cache files, restart IIS, and then use the SCA to change the location.
Unable to retrieve the specified NT domain.
  • Context: The NT domain name was entered but the system cannot retrieve the specified domain.

  • Action: Ensure the domain exists and the Primary Domain Controller (PDC) is on the network.

Active Directory settings not available.
Unable to retrieve the specified Active Directory container.
  • Context: The user chose Active Directory (using the Add button) but the system failed to retrieve the setting object or the Active Directory container.

  • Action: Verify that the container name is entered correctly. Verify that the current user name and password specifies an account with access to that container. (You can also use the Browse (...) button to select the container.)

Unable to retrieve the specified Site Server Organizational Unit.
  • Context: The user clicked the Add button for Site Server but the Site Server setting object wasn't retrieved by the system.

  • Action: Verify that the organizational unit (OU) entered is typed correctly and that the OU is on the current machine. Verify that the current user name and password (or anonymous account) has access to that OU.

The Server Configuration Application has failed to remove LDAP support from
the Microsoft Content Management Server database.
  • Context: The LDAP authentication was set to None but the system failed to do the operation.

  • Action: Refresh the Access tab page to see what the current LDAP setting is. If it specifies None, then everything is OK and the message can be ignored. If it still says Site Server or Active Directory, retry the operation.

The are several error messages that indicate failure to do a number of tasks such as removing Active Directory container, bind to Active Directory, bind to Site Server machine, configure LDAP setting as Site Server, and add or remove the LDAP Site Server OU.

For the above messages, you should verify that MSCMS 2001 server and database are running and operational. Refresh the main (tab) page on the SCA and try the operation again.
