Recipient Configuration > Distribution Group > Dynamic Distribution Group (RTM)

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 will reach end of support on April 11, 2017. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007

A dynamic distribution group is a collection of mailbox users, other distribution groups, mail-enabled users, and mail-enabled contacts. Unlike regular distribution groups that contain a defined set of members, the membership list for dynamic distribution groups is calculated based on the filters and conditions that you define. When an e-mail message is sent to a dynamic distribution group, it is delivered to all recipients in the organization that match the criteria defined for that dynamic distribution group.

For more information about creating and configuring dynamic distribution groups, see How to Create a New Dynamic Distribution Group.

When you select the Distribution Group node under Recipient Configuration, the result pane displays a list of all mail-enabled distribution groups in your Exchange Server 2007 organization. For more information about the Distribution Group node, see Recipient Configuration > Distribution Group (RTM).

Note

To modify how recipient configuration objects are displayed in Microsoft Management Console (MMC), click View in the action pane. For more information about view options, see Recipient Configuration (RTM).

When you select a dynamic distribution group in the result pane, the following actions are available either by right-clicking the dynamic distribution group name or by using the action pane.

  • Remove
Click Remove to permanently remove the dynamic distribution group from your Exchange 2007 organization and to delete it from the Active Directory directory service.
  • Properties
Click Properties to view or modify the settings for the selected dynamic distribution group.

Note

If you select multiple distribution groups in the result pane, the Properties action is not displayed. Also, if your selection contains both mail-enabled distribution groups and dynamic distribution groups, the Remove action is also not displayed.
