How to Disable a Software Update Deployment

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

Software update deployments in Configuration Manager 2007 can be disabled by configuring the deployment for a collection without any client computers or by configuring the deployment to be made available to clients on with a start time that won't realistically be reached. The first method is preferred because it does not create new policy instances, but just evaluates the deployment and determines that it is no longer in the target collection. When the start time is configured for sometime in the future, the deployment object is updated on the site server and all child sites, client policies are updated, and, after the next client machine policy cycle, the software updates in the deployment no longer display as available or install at configured deadlines. The following procedure provides the steps necessary to disable a deployment.

To disable a software update deployment

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System CenterConfiguration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Updates / Deployment Management.

  2. In the results pane, right-click one or more deployments, and then click Properties.

  3. To modify the collection, click the Collection tab, and then configure the deployment with a collection that has no target clients.

  4. To modify the start time, click the Schedule tab, and then configure the available Date and time setting to a future date. For example, configure the date for the year 2020. If the deadline is configured, either remove the deadline or configure it for a date later than the available date.

  5. Click OK to update the deployment.
