Installing or Removing Service Pack 1

Installing or Removing Service Pack 1

Microsoft Speech Server 2004 (MSS) Service Pack 1 (SP1) offers support for two new languages, as well as an enhanced customer experience through improved performance, reliability, and error reporting. For more information, see What's New in Microsoft Speech Server 2004 SP1.

Important  Before installing SP1, it is recommended that you save all current settings for computers running Telephony Application Services (TAS) or Speech Engine Services (SES). Any remote servers that have been added to the deployment group are removed during the upgrade. Saving settings copies the settings out to a file, which can then be used to upload settings after the upgrade is complete.

For more information see Saving or Loading Speech Server Settings.

Installing the Service Pack

After you install MSS SP1, the MSS installation is upgraded. This action cannot be rolled back. After the installation is upgraded, removing SP1 removes the entire MSS installation.

To install MSS SP1
  1. Insert the Microsoft Speech Server Service Pack 1 CD into the CD drive. The Setup Wizard opens.

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  3. Click Finish to complete Setup.

Note  The Service Pack can be installed from the command line (unattended or silent install), however the ADDLOCAL and INSTALLDIR parameters are not supported. For more information, see Running an Unattended Install.

Removing the Service Pack

Removing SP1 removes the entire MSS installation.

To remove MSS SP1
  1. In Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs.

  2. Click Microsoft Speech Server.

  3. Click Remove, and then click Yes.

Remarks

You can repair a faulty service pack installation by locating the Microsoft Speech Server listing in Add or Remove Programs, selecting Modify, and then selecting Repair in the Program Maintenance dialog box. Repairing the service pack installation reinstalls the MSS features currently installed on the computer.
