Speech Server Setup Overview

Speech Server Setup Overview

This topic describes the Microsoft Speech Server (MSS) 2004 Setup program, and steps to take before installing MSS. For a successful installation, follow the information in this topic closely and use the Setup Checklist specific to your edition of MSS 2004:

Before Running Setup

  • Remove all pre-release versions of MSS. See Removing Speech Server.

  • Verify that the computer meets all hardware and network prerequisites. See Planning Checklist.

  • Disconnect the computer from the production environment. This will minimize disruption of service.

  • Decrypt the %ProgramFiles% and C:\inetpub\wwwrootfolders. Failure to do so will result in an improper installation. See the Windows Server 2003 documentation.

Remarks

Installing MSS temporarily interrupts the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service. For more information about the WMI service, see Using WMI Scripting with Speech Server.

MSS sets permission levels on the computers where it is installed. After installing MSS, only Administrators (not Users or Guests) are allowed to log on interactively.
