Removing Speech Server

Removing Speech Server

This topic describes how to remove an installation of Microsoft Speech Server (MSS) 2004 from a single computer. MSS cannot be removed remotely; it must be removed locally from each computer.

Important  It is strongly recommended that you follow the procedures in Shutting Down or Starting Speech Server before removing MSS.

What removing MSS does NOT do:

  • Removing MSS does not revert security policies back to pre-installation levels.

  • Removing MSS does not remove telephony interface manager (TIM) software; such software is installed by the TIM manufacturer's setup process. To remove TIM software, refer to the manufacturer's documentation.

  • Removing MSS does not remove drivers for TIM software and telephony boards; such drivers are installed by the telephony board manufacturer's setup process. To remove these drivers, refer to the manufacturer's documentation.

  • Removing MSS does not remove Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, Microsoft Enterprise Instrumentation Framework (EIF), or any prerequisite software listed in Installing Prerequisite Software.

Note  Do not remove EIF prior to removing MSS. Remove EIF separately after MSS is removed.

To remove MSS from a single computer

  1. Click Start.

  2. Click Control Panel.

  3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

  4. Select Microsoft Speech Server 2004, and then click Remove.

  5. Click Yes to remove the program.

Remarks

Removing MSS temporarily interrupts the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service.

Speech API (SAPI) components, including SAPI speech engines, are removed only if they were installed by MSS Setup. If these components were installed by other means, such as by Microsoft Windows, they will not be removed.
