Installing Administrative Tools

Installing Administrative Tools

This topic explains how to install the Microsoft Speech Server (MSS) Administrative Tools on a computer on which MSS has not been installed. These are the same tools that are installed with the MSS Setup. This procedure is typically used to set up a single computer as a remote administration console.

MSS Administrative Tools include:

  • Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in for MSS

  • Support for Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) scripting

  • Product documentation, and

  • Sample administrative scripts.

Prerequisites

A computer that is running only Administrative Tools does not need to meet all of the prerequisites for installing the MSS services. Before installing Administrative Tools, verify that the computer is running one of the following operating systems:

  • Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2

  • Windows Server 2003

In addition, verify that the computer is running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5. For more information, see Installing Microsoft Internet Explorer.

  2. Click Install Microsoft Speech Server.

  3. On the Prerequisites screen, ignore the warnings (with the exceptions noted, above), and click Continue.

  4. Read and accept the End-User License Agreement, and then click Next.

  5. On the Customer Information page, enter the customer information and the 25-digit Product Key, and then click Next.

  6. On the Setup Type page, click Custom and click Next.

  9. Click Finish to close Setup.
