Installing Standard Edition

This topic provides installation instructions for Microsoft Speech Server (MSS) Standard Edition.

Note  For Enterprise Edition installation instructions, see Installing Enterprise Edition. For Evaluation Edition installation instructions, see Installing Evaluation Edition.

Before installing, verify that the computer meets all software prerequisites. For more information, see Installing Prerequisite Software.

To install Standard Edition

  1. Insert the Microsoft Speech Server 2004 CD. The Setup program launches automatically.

Note  If Setup does not automatically launch, or if you are installing MSS from a network location: open Windows Explorer, navigate to the drive location of the Microsoft Speech Server CD, and then double-click Setup.exe.

  2. Click Install Microsoft Speech Server.

  3. If all prerequisite software is found, click Install Microsoft Speech Server on the Installation Guide screen.

  4. Otherwise, install the missing required software as indicated on the Prerequisites screen, and click Continue to install MSS.

  5. Read and accept the End-User License Agreement, and then click Next.

  6. On the Customer Information screen, enter the customer information and the 25-digit Product Key, and then click Next.

Note  A Product Key is not required for Volume Licensing customers.

  7. On the Setup Type screen, do one of the following:

    • Select Complete to install all components, and then click Next.

    • Select Custom to install only selected components, click Next, and on the Custom Install screen, clear the components you do not want installed.

  8. Select the type of applications to support (Telephony Applications, Multimodal Applications, or Both Telephony and Multimodal Applications), and click Install.

  9. Click Finish.

Feature Restrictions for Standard Edition

  • Speech Engine Services (SES) and Telephony Application Services (TAS) must be installed on the same computer.

  • TAS requires that SES be installed.

  • TAS and SES require that MSS Components be installed.

  • TAS and SES require that Administrative Tools be installed.

Remarks

To minimize disruption of service, disconnect the server from the production environment before installing MSS.

Installing MSS temporarily interrupts the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service. For more information about the WMI service, see Understanding WMI Scripting.

MSS sets permission levels on the computers where it is installed. After installing MSS, only Administrators (not Users or Guests) are able to log on interactively.

To install only the Administrative tools without MSS, see Installing Administrative Tools.
