Upgrading Speech Server
This topic describes the supported and unsupported upgrade scenarios, and the setup experience during an upgrade.
Notes It is strongly recommended that you follow the procedures in Shutting Down or Starting Speech Server before upgrading a Microsoft Speech Server (MSS) installation.
Additionally, it is recommended that you save all current settings to a file that can be uploaded later if needed. For more information, see Saving or Loading Speech Server Settings.

180-Day Evaluation cannot be upgraded to Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition.
Pre-release versions of MSS 2004 or MSS 2004 Service Pack 1 cannot be upgraded to MSS 2004 R2.
Upgrade Experience
The Speech Server Setup wizard detects whether there is an existing edition.
If the existing edition meets the upgrade requirements, you are prompted to continue with the upgrade. Clicking OK on this page preserves the server configurations and removes the existing installation.
The upgrade edition will be installed in the same location defined in the existing installation and will have the same feature selections. Do not change these values during the upgrade.
If the existing edition does not meet the upgrade requirements, you must remove the existing installation before continuing with the new installation.
Remarks
A product key is not required for Volume Licensing customers.
A language pack can only be added to MSS 2004 R2 Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition. For more information, see Installing or Removing a Language Pack
