Speech Server Editions

Speech Server Editions

Microsoft Speech Server (MSS) 2004 R2 is available in three editions:

  • Standard Edition

  • Enterprise Edition

  • 180-Day Evaluation

Standard Edition

Standard Edition is a single-server solution. In this solution, Telephony Application Services (TAS) and Speech Engine Services (SES) are installed and run on a single computer. A Web server can be installed on the same computer or on a separate computer.

Standard Edition is limited to 24 concurrent users (phone callers or Web requests) to the system and is limited to the Microsoft-provided speech recognition engine and the Speechify text-to-speech (TTS) engine.

Standard Edition can be installed on a computer running Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition.

Enterprise Edition

Enterprise Edition is a distributed solution. In this solution, TAS and SES can be installed and run on multiple computers in a server farm. Generally, this solution incorporates multiple Web server computers in their own server farm.

This edition also includes administrative tools for managing multiple MSS computers in speech farms, for deploying applications, and for monitoring. Enterprise Edition can also use third-party speech engines in addition to the Microsoft and Speechify speech engines.

Enterprise Edition must be installed on a computer running Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition. This edition also requires the use of either hardware or software load balancing for managing the server farms.

180-Day Evaluation

The 180-Day Evaluation is identical to Enterprise Edition in its functionality. However, it is for evaluation purposes only, and it expires 180 days after it is installed. The 180-Day Evaluation can be installed on a computer running Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition.
