Microsoft IT has undertaken a multi-year journey to transform how the company works with BI. As part of this initiative, Microsoft IT is developing a solution for Finance that supports mature data reporting, while simultaneously adding agile, self-service capabilities that open up BI analysis to thousands of business users across the company.

  • Providing a single sign-on experience for partners with Microsoft Azure Active Directory
Microsoft is making a dedicated effort to streamline the number of portals external partners must access to conduct business with the company. As that process is being completed, the Microsoft Operations team decided to use the new Azure Active directory B2B collaboration solution to create a single sign-on access page (SOAP). Now a partner only has to log in once to access multiple applications, sites, and services. This not only significantly improves the user experience but it also boosts productivity and retains the access controls Microsoft needs.

  • Transforming business applications using the Windows 10 Universal app platform
As the “First and Best” customer of Microsoft enterprise products, Microsoft IT partnered with the Windows development team to transform core line of business applications into Windows 10 universal hosted web applications. They used the Universal Windows Platform, which frees developers from platform-specific work, to rearchitect MSApprovals, a critical line of business application responsible for approving 100,000 Microsoft internal transactions per month. Three codebases are now a single codebase, and maintenance has been reduced by 40 percent. The result is the Windows 10 Universal App, MSApprovals, which runs on any device and gives users a seamless experience on their desktop, tablet, or phone.
