Use the Remove-DistributionGroup cmdlet to delete an existing distribution group from the Active Directory directory service.

Syntax

Remove-DistributionGroup -Identity <DistributionGroupIdParameter> [-DomainController <Fqdn>]

Detailed Description

The Remove-DistributionGroup cmdlet deletes an existing distribution group from the Active Directory directory service.

To run the Remove-DistributionGroup cmdlet, the account you use must be delegated the following:

  • Exchange Recipient Administrator role

  • Account Operator role for the applicable Active Directory containers

The Identity parameter specifies the distribution group that you want to remove. The Identity parameter can take any of the following values for the distribution group:

  • Distinguished name (DN)

  • Canonical name

  • GUID

  • Name

  • Display name

  • Alias

  • Legacy Exchange DN

  • Primary Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) address

DomainController

Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Fqdn

To specify the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the domain controller that writes this configuration change to Active Directory, include the DomainController parameter.
